making my way downtown

[The big issue here isn't getting fired. No, Spy will be fine for now, considering all that he's saved. Losing a resource as powerful as RED and Mann Co in general is a blow indeed, but Spy can get by. Right now, he's more concerned about living and making sure none of his loose ends catch up to him.

Most of the things he's taking back with him are either essential or expensive. The weapon magazines and catalogues sent by RED are still sitting in his old quarters, along with some leisure books and even some pieces of his old uniform. The suit has always been a part of his look, so he keeps some of it; they make for some decent padding for the wine stored in the trunk of his car.

With his tie slung around his neck and his jacket over his arm, Spy makes a mental checklist of all he needs. His life is pretty much stowed away in his wallet: bank cards, multiple IDs, cash, miniature cloaking device, plane tickets... He pats his pants pocket for the only thing that doesn't fit in his wallet: his passport. Not that he'll need it for the flight, but it's good to have these things just in case.

A tiny part of his brain nags at him, urging him to feel sentimental about leaving his workplace of over four years. But to hell with that - god knows this won't be the last he's seen of them.

When Scout hobbles up to his car, a mess of stupidity and arm casts, Spy is tempted to slam the door in his face and make him eat his dust trail. But, of course, the little mongrel has to pull the mother card and all of a sudden Spy feels responsible.]

I have a jet leaving in fifty minutes. You've got twenty. Get in the car.

Hmm?

[He moves his arm to shoot his teammate a look with one eye open. Scout is closer to him than he expects, but he doesn't do anything about it.]

Is it your turn to ask for a cuddle, now?

Wha?

[ Well there's only one pillow and he's supposed to share, right...? ]

I ain't askin' for nuthin. Go ta sleep, Spy.

[He reaches out to pat the top of Scout's head before tucking that arm under his neck.]

Right. You too.

[ Scout manages a small jab into Spy's side for that, but ultimately plans to go right off to sleep. Now, once he's dropped, he might be moving around a bit. If Spy didn't remember that from all the times the bed might quake in the night from him tossing and turning ( or talking or snoring ), he was going to learn it firsthand. ]

[Spy sleeps pretty soundly at first due to the fact that his body is under the effect of drugs. But once that wears off, he starts to wake up, being the light sleeper that he is. Half awake, he nudges Scout right back, hoping to get some distance between them.]

[ Not quite awake himself, and thus not remembering who he's dealing with, Scout shoves his face against Spy's shoulder and nudges him back, as if this is will discourage any more nudging. Nevermind he's got an arm slung across Spy's stomach by now since he's gone over onto his belly and into starfish formation somewhere during the night. It'll take more than a half-hearted touch to move him. ]

[Okay, the nudge is all good and well, it gets Scout another nudge in return, but the face in Spy's shoulder and the arm over his stomach wakes Spy right up. His body tenses as his brain tries to catch up with what's happening. His legs start to draw upwards as he prepares to launch himself off the bed, but then he's rubbing his eyes and oh it's just Scout.

Figures that the kid would be so handsy. During his brief moment of panic, he moved the sheet over to his side, but now he's trying to will his body to relax again to avoid disturbing his teammate.]

[ Hey, this is an issue of space... Well, ok, Spy's pretty warm as well, especially now he's taken the sheet away.

Scout whines a complaint against Spy's shoulder, tightening the arm around him and giving another nudge. Cut it out, will ya? ]

Mmphlhrmm.

[He's starting to relax, though the arm around his stomach doesn't help much. Sighing through his nose, he rubs at his eyes some more before giving up and laying his arm over his face.

The nudging doesn't tell Spy "stop", it's more like "I'm really annoying, please nudge me". At least this time around, it's a gentler nudge, trying to gauge how asleep Scout is right now.]

What?

[ Less and less asleep the more he's nudged. ]

Wha...?

[ Scout hasn't had to get up for much in the last few months, and it's still the middle of the night. He groans quietly in the back of his throat, protesting all the way up to setting his chin on Spy's shoulder. Loading.... loading...

A little jerk. ]

Shit. Sorry.

[ He coils his arms up, twitching to roll over onto his side. He's too out of it to start freaking out about it. Actually, he misses the contact immediately. ]

...S'okay.

[Without the help of the drugs, it'll be harder for Spy to fall asleep again. Maybe he can take a nap when Scout wakes up?

The distance gives room for cold to settle in. Spy adjusts the sheet so that it's covering both of them equally. His shoulders set for a moment as he considers his next move, then he's slithering over to slowly close that gap between them.]

[ It'll be easy for Scout to drop off again so long as he doesn't fully wake up and start to think about things. In the morning his feet used to hit the ground so he could go out running to warm up for the day, but there's no reason for it these days and he's gotten used to sleeping in.

When Spy scoots closer again, he doesn't think too much about just winding an arm around his waist again where it's warm. ]

[It's just so strange to share a bed with someone again. Sleeping is one of the most vulnerable positions someone can be in, and he would be overly aware of it if not for the fact that it's Scout. His teammate's presence is so familiar that his body labels the intruder as non-threatening before his mind can.

Maybe if he just focuses on the warmth and the coziness of their proximity, he can get back to sleep. It might take him a while, but he just manages to dip off into a fragile state of sleeping.]

[ When it comes down to it, Scout just doesn't consider Spy's presence as a threat at this point. He's even sought it as something of a comfort when he was under duress, so it's really not an issue while he's too sleepy to think about far-flung implications.

When he does wake up in the morning, properly, the half-spooning thing is something he can consider privately without needing to make a big production of it. He does, however, begin to quietly extract himself in preparation to get up since he thinks Spy is still sleeping. ]

[The movement doesn't catch his attention so much as the cold that takes up the space they used to share. Spy shivers, curling his limbs closer to himself as his eyes start to blink open.

He turns bleary eyes towards Scout just to verify his presence. His surroundings come to him with increasing speed and his body relaxes as his mind starts to clear. However, he's in no rush to say anything, or to move much, either. The bruises from yesterday are starting to wake up too, and that's not much fun.]

[ Crap. Uh. ]

Hey...

[ He settles back down somewhat, almost guiltily. ]

Sleep ok?

[It's a pleasant surprise that Scout isn't bounding out of bed. Good way to start the day: at a reasonable pace. He quirks a brow, a wry smile curling his mouth.]

Oh, oui. Quite warm and cozy. And you?

[The only thing that ruins his calm demeanor is a stray shiver that rolls through his body. He doesn't do too well coping with lost heat, apparently.]

[ The edge of Scout's mouth pulls, almost mirroring the gesture. ]

Not bad, I guess.

[ Like a goddamn log.

He hesitates, feeling more than seeing the other man shiver, before reaching for his waist once more and, after another moment, pulling to roll Spy chest to chest with him. ]

[The gesture catches Spy off guard completely. His eyes widen, a hand coming up instinctively to rest on Scout's shoulder, ready to push him away if need be.]

[Then he's relaxing again, his body drawn to the warmth. His smile turns a touch more sincere.]

I'm-- glad to 'ear it.

[ Scout yawns, partially to cover up the fact he's pleasantly surprised Spy didn't needle him about this spur of compassion, at least not yet. ]

When's the doc supposed to get that splint off you anyway?

I'm due for anot'er check up tomorrow. I will convince 'im to remove it if need be, and t'en we can make our next move.

[It's not so urgent when he's in bed and more comfortable than he's ever been since they arrived. The hand on Scout's shoulder splays out before creeping up to his neck, seeking out the warmth there.]

Comfortable, chéri?

[ Scout flinches a little. ]

Yeah, 'fore ya put that icecube on my neck.

[ He sneaks his free hand up, making to tap the tip of Spy's nose. ]

Does it hurt?

[ Maybe not the best way to do that, Scout. Granted, he's being pretty gentle about it. ]

[He grins, but his amused expression breaks as he winces.]

Not terribly, but I doubt a punch to t'e face would be much fun.

[The hand on Scout's neck sweeps up until his thumb brushes the line of his jaw.]

'Ow's t'is? Did it bruise, in t'e end?

Yeah, it was pretty hard not to put my knee into your big nose yesterday. You got that, right?

[ His eyes narrow a little with the ache that results from the touch. ]

Feels like it. You got a pretty mean little hook, ya bastard.
