[As night falls and Lloyd finishes wandering around the streets of Meltokio (man, that city is a lot bigger than he imagined, though not quite as big as Welgaia, and definitely livelier and louder and full of more people who appreciate food - just because angels don't need it doesn't mean he can't enjoy it! - and just all around more fun), he almost flies back to Zelos' mansion before remembering that it's probably a bad idea to do that.

While he promised that he wouldn't get too distracted, he can't help it. Everything's just more colorful down here and it's been so long since he's been able to dabble in the little things. It doesn't mean that he's forgotten what he needs to do down here; if he can navigate this world and figure out a way to prevent Zelos from completing his transformation, he should be set. Right?

The angel exchanges small talk with Sheena when he arrives. While she doesn't seem too happy to be accompanying the oh so popular Chosen, he can pick up genuine concern from her. He dodges all the questions about his origins with his usual grace (in other words, close to none) and bids her goodnight.

The little one wishes him goodnight when he passes and leaves it at that.

Lloyd appreciates the room he's given, but decides to spend the evening on the balcony, waiting for the Chosen to come home. He sits on the railing, letting night cloak him as he watches the courtyard.]

No. [His brow furrows.] Would that have been a problem?

Is it a problem if it's a problem?

I'd like to keep this as problem-free as possible.

I'm going to make one thing clear to you: these subjects? Off limits. Now we're going to go back and act like the best of friends and come morning this never happened.

[Frowning, Lloyd tries to catch Zelos' gaze, tries to gauge his expression.

He doesn't really have a choice in the matter, though, does he?] Alright. Can I at least ask why?

Not in this lifetime.

[He clicks his tongue and shrugs. There won't be another lifetime to ask, he thinks, but he'll leave it alone for now.] Alright, alright.

Are you ready to head back in yet?

My good mood's pretty much shot. Might as well end on a low note.

[He just tilts his head at the Chosen.] Doesn't really answer my question.

[Takes a hesitant step back towards the mansion.]

Yeah, yeah. Let's go.

[He remains quiet for a few moments, then:]

Hey, uh... I'm sorry if I said anything upsetting back there.

Whatever. It didn't happen.

If you say so.

[Nope, not letting it rest.] If you have a problem with me, you can just say so.

[ Not going to answer, just going to open the door and give him a two-fingered salute. ]

Goodnight. [ annnd shutting it in his face. ]

He-- [Before he can finish that sentiment, the door cuts him off.

Grumbling and cursing under his breath, Lloyd dances outside the door for a good while, stamping his feet like a child. Oh Mithos, if only you could see him now.

With a loud sigh, he decides to come back in the way he left and jumps back onto the balcony.]

[ He doesn't sleep very well. At all. The journey is happening and he's not ready for it. Sheena's sure to wake him up at the crack of dawn, kicking the door down and hauling him out of bed.

By noon, they're setting out for the Earth temple. ]

[Lloyd is still stewing over their confusing dispute as they make their way to the earth temple. The rest of the party ignore him for the most part, minus clean up after encountering monsters or bandits.

However, by the time they're past three quarters of the way to the temple, he's relieved enough tension through fighting that the issue is in the back of his mind. He spends most of his time chatting with Sheena about her fighting methods and just what her cards did.]

[ It gets quiet. Too quiet. The wildlife goes still, the air thickens. It's by a lucky chance that he turns in time to see the blast of fire in time to dodge it. ]

Hey, not to break up the feel-goods but we've got company!

Watch out!

[With a quick glance around, Lloyd identifies men in familiar uniforms surrounding them. They resemble desians in both appearance and demeanor, but there's no reason for desians to be attacking the Chosen, is there?

Lloyd is fully aware of Yuan and his renegades. He and Yuan kept in contact even after the latter left Mithos and his city of angels, and while they both agreed that Mithos' ideal was not the best course of action (to say the least), Lloyd didn't agree with Yuan's plans, either.

There isn't a moment of hesitation - there's simply no time - before Lloyd begins a counterattack.]

[ they're... really strong. And utterly determined to see him very, very dead. By the time the last opponent is dead, he's got a few minor cuts and burns. ]

What the hell was that all about?

Sneaky bastards. Thought they'd catch us on our way to the temple, probably.

[He scowls, then turns to inspect Zelos.] Are you alright?

Nothing mortal. Let's just go. They might have reinforcements,

If you say so.

[Huffs, but walks ahead. He keeps his swords out just in case. Fortunately, Sheena says she's pretty certain they're almost there.]

[ and there it is. ]

... Woah. [ !! ] The door's sealed.

Damn. So how are we supposed to get in?
